Perth-based Skywest Airlines is Western Australia’s largest regional carrier. Since its beginnings as an air taxi service in 1963, the airline has transported millions of passengers across the immense state of Western Australia, linking key regional towns such as Kununurra, Exmouth, Carnarvon and Monkey Mia. Next on the flight path agenda is Ravensthorpe, set to launch in November 2010.
Skywest Airlines prides itself on being large enough to provide a full range of services, while small enough to maintain flexibility. Mining contracts have helped buoy the airline, which is the preferred freight carrier of companies including Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals.
Known for its impeccable safety record, reliability and in-flight service, Skywest Airlines currently serves around 700 000 passengers a year, offering more than 340 flights a week to over 17 destinations, including Darwin in the Northern Territory, Melbourne, Victoria; and Bali, Indonesia. The carrier was inducted into WA Tourism’s Hall of Fame in 2007 for its consistent performance.
Skywest Airlines operates a fleet of fokker 50 turbo-prop and fokker 100 jet aircraft, the latter with the smallest noise footprint of any jet aircraft in its class.
Baggage allowance on Skywest Airlines flights is 20 kilograms for adults and 10 kg for infants, with carry-on hand luggage permitted up to 7 kilograms.
A full bar service is offered on all Skywest Airlines flights, along with meals, snacks and complementary entertainment packs for the kids. With all aircraft featuring an extended seat pitch of 34”, the carrier has the most spacious economy seating in Western Australia.
Skywest Airlines has one of the best on-time performance records in the country. Passengers on all services are provided with complimentary West Australian newspapers as well as in-flight magazines.
Thanks to its codeshare agreement with Virgin Blue, passengers can earn points through the Velocity membership scheme on all Skywest Airlines services.
