Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is located just southwest of Amsterdam and is the Netherlands’ main International airport. Transavia, Martinair, Corendon Dutch Airlines, Arkfly and KLM all use the airport as their primary hub. Delta Air Lines utilizes the airport as a European hub. Vueling utilizes the airport as a base. The airport is considered to be an Airport City, which basically means that there are a number of venues “inside the fence” which may include theme parks, medical facilities, hotels, retail, offices and so on. In terms of passenger traffic, the airport ranks as the fourth busiest airport in Europe and the 14th busiest airport in the world. In 2011, the airport served 49.8 million passengers.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is built as one large terminal that is split into separate halls. The airport has six runways, and plans for a terminal expansion. The airport features 18 double jet way gates.
