What to do in Japan
Japan is one of those rare countries in the world that has something to offer to all types of travellers, and travellers of all ages. It combines the past and the future, and natural beauty with manmade wonders. Even the Japanese culture itself fascinates many and is one of the main reasons people flock to the country.
See why Japan is beautiful every season and go sightseeing its natural landscapes. Visit the snowy peaks of Daisetsuzan National Park. Climb the 2,446 stone steps of the holy Mount Haguro. Go skiing in the Japan Alps. Don’t forget to take pictures of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji. And if you visit during spring, walk among thousands of cherry blossoms in Yoshino.
Get to know the country’s culture next and stop by some of its historic sites. There’s the Hirosaki and Uwajima Castles, Nagasaki’s Confucian Temple, and the stunning Fushimi Inari Shrine. And for museums, take your pick among the National Art Center Tokyo, Miho Museum, and Otsuka Museum of Art. You should check out their quirky museums like the Sapporo Beer Museum, the Sand Museum, and the popular Ghibli Museum for fans of filmmaker Miyazaki Hayao.
Travelling with kids? Japan has tons of theme parks! Feel the magic in Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Japan, Fuji-Q Highland, Sara Dreamland, Sanrio Puroland, and more.

When to visit Japan
The best time to visit Japan is during spring from March to May. You’ll enjoy mild weather and see the trees blooming (like the famous cherry blossom trees). But if you want fewer crowds, avoid scheduling your trip by the end of April to the first week of May.
Although the locals can speak English, we recommend you bring a good phrasebook and language to help you wander around the country more easily.
When you do, you can fly to Japan whenever you want because Australians can visit visa-free for up to 90 days. Just remember to always take your passport with you whenever you travel around the country. For more info, check out Smartraveller.
