What to do in Frankfurt
Frankfurt is Germany’s financial centre and is usually seen as a gateway to Europe. But don’t make that mistake or you’ll miss what the city has to offer. From history, culture, amusement, and dining options, all kinds of travellers will enjoy the city. And you will too.
Frankfurt is dubbed by Germany as the “City of Art.” From world-class theatre, opera, and ballet, to hosting many art exhibitions, Frankfurt is also a centre for culture.
The city is paradise for art and history buffs. See the Gothic style and famous red sandstone of St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Ride the subway to see Frankfurt’s many museums and galleries like the renowned Städel Museum for its masterpieces, MMK Museum of Modern Art, and Giersch Museum, Caricatura – Museum for Comic Art.
There are even more museums you can visit to learn more about Frankfurt’s history and progress. There’s the Senckenberg Museum of natural history, the German Museum of Architecture, German Film Museum, and the Frankfurt Transport Museum to name a few.
Frankfurt itself is a work of art with its mix of old and new buildings. For a bit of Euro, you can see the whole city when you go to the top of the Main Tower. And if you want greener scenery, you can’t miss Frankfurt’s Botanical Garden. You should also wait when the glass domes light up beautifully at night, and then enjoy a nightcap at the cider taverns in Sachsenhausen. For a bite to eat, get tips from Anita's Feast.
Still can’t get enough of Frankfurt? Be inspired by this Frankfurt guide or attend the city’s biggest events like the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, the spectacular Luminale, and their annual Christmas Market.
