What to do in Tehran
Tehran is the bustling capital city of Iran. It’s both the largest city in the country and Western Asia, filled with great museums, historic mosques, shopping strips, parks, warm locals, and so much more.
You’ll instantly be greeted by the city’s iconic landmark when you leave the airport – the Azadi Monument. After taking a few photos of this architectural treasure, don’t forget to check out the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and Milad Tower, which is one of the tallest towers in the world.
Take the bus next to the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Golestan Palace. You’ll marvel at the detail of its design and find a cool oasis at the palace garden in the heart of the city. Fill your camera next with beautiful pictures of the Jamshidieh Park. You can also spend a lovely arvo at Mellat Park and Niavaran Park or ride a boat in Chitgar Lake.
Are you a culture vulture? Then you should head straight to the National Museum of Iran and the Treasury of the National Jewels. But if the culture you’re after is Tehran’s shopping habits, take your Iranian Rial to the Grand Bazaar. You’ll feel the thrill of bargain shopping for all kinds of goods like carpets, jewellery, and souvenirs. If you’re feeling peckish right about now, the bazaar also has heaps of food stalls. Don’t forget to snack on the tasty churro-like bamiyeh.
A fantastic way for you to end your Tehran trip is a walk on the Tabiat Bridge. This architectural gem connects two parks and offers you a great view over the city. You can enjoy the scenery of Tehran best during sunset and at night.
