Roxas is one of the richest fishing grounds in the Philippines. As the country’s seafood capital, it played a major part in reviving the “diwal” or Angel Wing Clams. The shellfish, which is a highly prized local delicacy, almost became extinct. The city celebrates the “Diwal Festival” in December after the celebration of the city’s founding with the “Sinadya sa Halaran” Festival. The city is one of the alternate routes for travelers going to the island of Boracay. One of the major attractions of the city is its proximity to the town of Panay where the Santa Monica Church is found. It is made of coral stones and is home to the largest bell in Asia, the Panay Bell, a 10.4 ton bell made from 70 sacks of coins donated by the townsfolk. Roxas offers high quality education and in fact has a 95.4% literacy rate.
Roxas Airport is a small Principal Class-1 airport that serves the city of Roxas. Cebu Pacific offers one scheduled mid-morning flight to Roxas City daily. The earliest flight from Manila to Roxas is 5:10a.m., offered by PAL Express every day of the week. No complimentary snack and drink are served by budget airlines. The direct flight takes about 45 minutes. Only daytime flights are available for Roxas at the moment due to the airport's expansion and rehabilitation.
It is advisable that you have breakfast before your flight to Roxas so you will not feel hungry or dizzy during your flight. There are several food kiosks at the domestic terminal in Manila where you have several meal choices.
